First, make sure you check Blackboard because as a TCCD student, you can get some amazing software free. Examples of software available to you are the Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365. The following are free resources to help you construct your DICE project. I may add on to these as the semester continues. NOTE: These are not in alphabetical order.
Creative Commons: If you plan on hosting your final DICE project on the Internet, I suggest you license it through Creative Commons. I'm happy to help you if you need help. Wikimedia Commons: A great source of copyright-free or copyleft images for your project. The banner picture above comes from Wikimedia commons. CC Mixter: Another great source of copyright-free or copyleft music. This is especially useful for digital and multimodal projects. Audacity: A great resource that lets you edit and otherwise fine tune your audio recordings. Digital Trends list of free audio recording software for Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. Screencast-O-Matic: Another free resource that allows you to record your computer screen and audio. This is especially useful if you decide to produce a PowerPoint lecture as your final project. CamStudio: Another free, open source resource that also allows you to record your computer screen and audio. Like Screencast-O-Matic, this is useful for projects like PowerPoint lectures, ThingLinks, etc. Newspaper templates: However some of these require you to have Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft Word. (Remember, as a TCC student, you can get some pretty sweet software virtually cheap and even free. Check out the TCC announcements in Blackboard for more information.) Zinepal: An online 'zine maker that pulls together your blog or website to create a PDF or e-book. Keep in mind that you need a blog or website with a feed to use this. Wordpress, Blogger, or Edublog: Free website or blog-building sites that are good if you wish to create a series of web essays with video, music, links, and images. Note: Blogger is owned by Google and, as a result, you may need to sign in using your Google account to create a Blogger site. Thinglink: A free site that lets you visually link ideas while developing each one. Pechakucha: A free site that lets you create a concise presentation with visuals, voice over, and music. Sample Multi-modal Projects Here is a webessay I created a few years ago for a graduate class I took. It's on the rhetoric of two Rammstein videos. Student projects |
